I've had people make rude comments, too, and some I've put in their place.

My Daddy LOVES Lucy and Rebel, but it's his nature to "pick" at me. He and Mama will come over and visit and the babies are all over him. After a while he'll look at me and say "what do you want with these back alley dogs?" It doesn't bother me at all because I know he's just teasing. He and Mama babysat for me one time and he walked Lucy all over the neighborhood in a little pink dress. He had the BIGGEST grin on his face and introduced her to all their neighbors as his newest grandbaby!

But, I have a sister who aggravated the crap out of me about dressing the babies and "spoiling" them. I made sure her daughter (my niece) got a shih tzu puppy for Christmas that year and it shut her right up! He wears clothes now and is absolutely spoiled rotten. She was jealous!
