I say it depends(I will probably be the only one that disagrees). My sister in law has an 8 year old yorkie(who has cancer) and a 6 year old yorkie. The 8 year old one has had her teeth cleaned every year(by the vet) for a long time, and they're still terrible. The 6 year old gets checked every year, and has yet to have to have hers brushed. I think it depends on the yorkie. I don't brush my dogs teeth, never have. The only one of my inside dogs who has bad teeth is my 11 year old shih tzu. The 6 year old yorkies teeth are fine, as are my other dogs teeth. They always have chew bones to chew on, and I think that's what's always helped(well, I didn't start giving them chew bones until maybe 5 years ago), now I always have their toy box filled with them(the mint chews from drsfostersmith). They must be working
