Help with dry food.... I usually feed my Dax a Natures Variety or Stella and Chewy's type raw diet but since we are in rural Arkansas am having trouble finding it. Lately I have been making my own raw.... would appreciate any input on this... This batch I made (under the advice from the owners of the Oma's Pride company) I used 2lb ground turkey, 2lb organic bone meal (from a local butcher) (they said do not use commercial bone meal... you don't know where it came from... either grind your own or get it from the butcher....it's free they throw it away), about 1 lb of finely chopped blanched brocholi (spelling), about 10 chopped chicken hearts, and 2 raw eggs. Their recipe was 35% Meat, 35% bone, 20% veg, 10% organ meat (not liver). Mixed it together and froze it in seperate portions. I was very impressed he usually eats his food good but he lapped this up like it was his last meal. He has been eating it for a week with no change in bowel habits etc. I feed this 1 time a day in the evening. My problem is I free feed a very premium no grain food in the morning in case he is hungry. I have a hard time finding something he will eat... the little fart will eat my roomate's dogs Iams (with first ingredient of corn).... or my friends dogs Hills (also with corn) but not the merricks or evo that I spend big bucks for... he has had problems with food allergies in the past so the vet has advised to avoid wheat, corn and other fillers. What I am looking for is an ultra premium food with very small bites (like the ones above) I think thats why he likes them cause they are very small pieces. If you can be of any help please let me know. |
