Olivia, my heart goes out to you! You did your best, there was nothing you could have done to prevent this from happening. Perhaps there was something going on in her body that the vet didn't know to test for or perhaps there are no tests for what ever happened to cause this .
Yorkies are known for having poor teeth anyway as they age. 8 years is not young for a Yorky and not all of them live to be more than 10.
