I think it really depends on what type of coat your yorkie has. A yorkie with a thick cottony coat, I think looks better in a puppy cut or shorter cut. A yorkie with a silky coat can go either way. Here is a picture of my Shorty taken several years ago at the groomers. He has a fairly thick coat but it is not cottony and does not mat easily but it is easier to care for when it is shorter on the back.
