In my opinion, yes. Someone here pointed out that a yorkie turns up in a kill shelter almost every day in Texas. So if a rescue is paying high prices at auctions, I think they really need to ask themselves why those fees aren't going towards travel expenses rescuing yorkies who aren't making a profit for mills.
It is a heartbreaking situation, no question. Thor originally came from a pet store, and I can't bear the thought of such a great little doggie not getting a chance at a good home. Apparently he had a sister, and I often wonder where she ended up. At the same time, I don't understand how a rescue can spend money at an auction, but tell people not to buy from pet stores.
It's not a black and white issue, and some rescues choose to work with mills on a limited basis. If a rescue does gets dogs from mills, I believe that they should be open about it so people can make an informed decision about working with them.
