when either of my two boys start to bark I yell EH!
This will stop them and I hold up a finger
If they start again I repeat and come closer
and this will keep going until I am within reach
If you need to continue the pointed finger touches their nose
They will always stop and beg for attention
and this is where you lavish praise

This is a good idea, and as long as someone is calm when they do it, it should be effective. Dogs really pick up fast on hand signals, and this is what you are doing with your finger.
