  I like the pennies in the can too.  I used a Christmas tin, because it was louder than a soda can.  You don't yell, just say No in a stern voice, and shake the can.  Yelling or excitement on your part agitates them more.  Don't run and chase them either.   You can also say "sheeeh" as in hush.  At first, he may not hear the words, but he will hear the can.  You must shake the can every time he barks, you have to be more stubborn than him, otherwise, you will reinforce his barking, and he will learn he can win if he's more persistent.  You will never "prevent" barking, but he should learn to stop, at your command.  Now I'm able to raise my fingers to my lips, in a shushing fashion, and Joey will stop, but we still get the can out occasionally, training never really stops.  |
