If we're going somewhere Penny can't come, we board her with a lady who runs a dog boarding facility out of her home. It's really an awesome place-- she has a huge piece of land securely fenced in, and the dogs have the run of the property during the daytime. At night, they all sleep inside her house-- on the sofas, on the bed, or wherever they like. The dogs all have to go through an "interview" before they can board there in order to make sure they have a nice temperament and get along well with other dogs. Penny absolutely loves it there, and when she gets home she is so tired from playing with all the other dogs that she naps for about two days straight.
