You need to make it clear that he can only be up on the furniture with your permission
This takes some time and vigilance
Have him be in the room with you and everytime he jumps on the furniture
it's an emphatic NO! and shoo him off immediately
after he's gotten the message what I did was when I wanted my pups on the couch with me I picked them up
so the act of jumping up was forbidden and this made it clearer I think
after they had gotten used to the whole deal
I will call them up occasionally now
