Admin may think of something...but the only way I can think of right now is if you ask your "permissions" to be removed for a certain forum. Like, let's say you no longer wanted to see posts from the Garage Sale section - we could remove your access...but then to ever see it again, we'd have to change it back for you.
Another thing you could do is an Advanced Search - where you can choose the forums to search by holding the Ctrl key -- and then you can also select "Find Posts From" and "Sort Results By" -- it's kind of a work-around....sort of?
