I agree with the treat part..Maybe he could try taking him for walks or, letting your husband feed the dog instead of you. I'm sure being a rescue he probably had a horrible life before. My parents rescued a 7 month old schnauzer (Heidi passed away at 7 yrs old 6 months ago) Heidi was rescued from a mill by a woman that rescues mill dogs. Heidi was kept in a cage until this woman rescued her. She was very timid and would shake at the littlest noise. With love and patience Heidi got A LOT better...She was still a timid dog but, not as bad as when my parents first got her...Just be patient...I'm sure he will be fine...just give him time.
