From what I understand, if you develop your allergies at an older age, it's not as likely that you'll be able to stop the shots for a good while. I was a teenager and took them almost 10 years and do great now (and it's been 15 years since I stopped) but my mother has taken them for food allergies since a couple years ago and I don't know how long she'll have to do it.
