These are both really good ideas!
Thor came to me purse trained. He usually jumps into the bag when I put it on the floor, presumably because he knows he gets to come along if he's in the purse. He makes a really weird growly noise when I zip it closed that he doesn't make in any other situation. It's this very specific, "I do not want to be trapped in this purse!" growl. But after that he's completely relaxed and quiet. He's good company; I'll take him to the grocery store in a bag, and then when the checkout line is long, I'll unzip it enough for him to get his head out and I'll give him a scratch.
I don't ever leave him in the car because I think he looks pretty valuable and he's too small to put up a fight if someone decided to take him.
