Really what I look for is if I can't see the full footpads when I lift their foot, its time to trim the hair
I do the same as April love... use the cordless trimmer. Also as Aprillovestated, get your baby use to it, because at first she won't like or allow you to touch her paws. You'll have to prep her to allow you to touch her there or any where that's uncomfortable and unfamiliar to your touch. You can do this by massaging her paws when you have her sitting on your lap. Start slowly, but do it often until she accepts it. You can do the same in other areas of her body too. Also, begin to masage her gums as well, so she'll allow you to brush her teeth. It may take a few attempts before she'll allow your touch in areas, but it will be well worth it. If you can get her to the point of acceptance, you'll probaby not need a groomer at all if you feel comfortable doing it yourself. You'll at least be able to perform minor upkeep between grooming sessions like daily comb and brushing, teeth brushing, paw trimming, and nail clipping. Good luck it's all worth it. She'll love you more for it.
