I agree with other poster's it really depends on the type of hair they have, Copper is a softy and it is so much work just to keep his leggs and skirt long that I would not even try doing it all
Maddie on the other hand has a silky coat and her's is about an inch or maybe less now from hitting the ground she is pet quality. Her furdaddy has his AKC Ch. but her mommy doesn't, they grew Mommy's coat to the floor with little effort just keeping it clean and knot free. It really just depends, but definately can be done. Pet quality doesn't necessarily mean poor quality
