I just left Mimi to be when she used to whine. I used to give her a bunch of treats in her hide a squirrel or treat ball and she would be busy with that and I left. lol.
It does sound like separation anxiety. I know some members that tried putting the warm cuddle buddy doll(warms up in microwave) or the heart beat buddy. They say it helps with the separation anxiety. Or have a clothe that you have worn once in the crate. Hope it helps you.
