Default Worse than before

My seven month old yorkie was doing great when it came to using the pads. About three weeks ago, he started staying home alone from 8 to 5, and now he goes everywhere but on the pads.

It makes sense that this is probably his way of letting me know that he doesn't like this new change. However, on the weekends, when the whole family is home all day, he still goes everywhere.

Should I limit his space with a crate when I am not home? Should I get him fixed? (I've heard that males act out when they are not fixed) I don't know what to do. Please help.
