I have the same problem with frogs every spring. We have a large pond and the dogs (I have toy poodles and one yorkie) that don't have experience with frogs will almost always have to lick one to learn! I don't think the frogs in MI are poison, since none of my dogs are dead from them, but they sure do cause a lot of yucky foaming of the mouth! The first time it happened (years ago) I panicked and took the dog to the vet. Since then I have learned they will foam and retch, but as long as it goes away within a few hours they are okay.
