Layla has both- during the day (now that she is no longer a puppy) she is in one of her MANY beds- but at night she is in her crate where she has been since we first brought her home- she LOVES her crate- when she is ready for bed she climbs right in! I think crate training at night is essential for potty training and for the safety of your puppy.
