I just called the vets and they said absolutely no lepto or corona given..
They said they will give him steroid and benadryl before the rabies and the reason for the iv is just in case the worst reaction would happen...they would be able to give whatever was needed. She said if he went into the worst reaction it would be harder to find a vein..?

You given Benadryl 15-20 minutes before would be considered premedicating and he shouldn't have reacted that badly (unless you had given the Benadryl too early).
Placing an IV is fine and premedicating is fine but not sure why he needs to stay all day. We stay for 1/2 hour after will Ellie. An hour would be being extra safe. They can react a few hours after but then they can react a day or two after too (generally way less severe), so I suppose whatever your vet is comfortable with. There are some really nice vets out there who let the owner stay in the lobby and hold the dog instead of leaving them.
