Andromeda has had anal ruptures twice. She is very small and her anal glands are the same.
To help her, I bathe her in a little tub where the water comes up to her shoulders. I let her sit in the warm water while I bathe her and this helps the gland to excrete any back up that there is, and keeps it clean.
Also, a wet/warm cloth on their back-end seems to help relieve some of the problems of impackment.
There are also some thoughts as to herbal packs that might help, but as I have never tried them, I would not know whether they work or not.
