Gizmo is also allergic to the DHPP and swells up at first the docs would give the pre steroid inj. and a dose of benadryl for her size. after several yrs that stopped working. She now gets titered every 3 yrs to make sure she has enough of the DHPP in her to protect her.
Benjamin may or may not be as severe as Gizmo is. Gizmo is allergic to everything including the yeast her own skin produces. Most of the time depending on severity the pre inj works just fine. After the rabies is given it would be adviseable to stay at the vets office for about 20 - 30 min after the rabies inj so if there is any reaction you will be there for immediate medical attention.
