The exact same thing happened with Rowdy when he was about 3 or 4 months old. He was sleepingin a crate and he would yip at about 2:00 or
3:00am - like he needed to go out potty - I'd take him out, but when I put him back in the crate, he would cry and cry. I thought he probably wanted to sleep in bed with us - he was in our bedroom and he could see us. Since he was not potty trained, I was afraid to put him in our bed. So, I would get up and take him to our den, which has a concrete floor and I would put him in his large metal pen (it's not a metal crate, it's the metal sections, about 3 foot high, that fold up or out in to make a enclosure). It had a bed and papers for potty. He would then go back to sleep, no crying and I did't stay in there with him. Sometimes though, I'd just lay down on the couch in the den and let him free on the floor. He would get into the dog bed on the floor and go back to sleep or sometimes I'd let him on the couch with me. We did this for several nights, but then like magic, he started sleeping through the night in his crate, not yipping to get up, and he did so until he was completely housebroken and my hubby wanted him to sleep with us. So, I don't have any magic trick except to say that it eventually stopped.
I'm wondering if long walks in the evening might help him sleep through the night better?????
