Default Breeders vs. Brokers???????

ok.....I just purchased my first AKC Puppy. Mia Rose (MIMI). We absolutely are in love with her. I thought I did my homework. I took weeks to weed through all of the scams and the links telling me "Don't buy from a backyard breeder," and all of the emails from the missionaries in Africa. (Which was really weird) I placed an ad looking for a yorkie, I specifically said NO out of state. I had heard that small dogs get bad health problems and can die when flying. I did not want to place any dog in jeopardy. We finally found a local person. I thought the puppy was local. When we saw her it was (of course) love at first site. I asked for the AKC papers he said he would send them to me. When I got the papers I noticed the Breeder was from out of state. When I contacted her to see pictures of the Dam and the Sire, she said she retired them and has no pictures. Mia was just born on December 26,2008. Any way, I am assuming the gentleman was the Broker for the breeder? Is this normal activity. Just wondering for any future references.
Thanks
