Oliver and Brooklyn were trained the same way. I love the xpen method...it worked great for me!
Good advice here. Oh, and puppy pad holders work great.

Don't give your dog a chance to go on the carpet when you take him back inside. Take him first to a potty pad--carry him if necessary--and confine him to it for five minutes or until he goes potty. If he doesn't go, put him in his crate.

An hour later, do the whole process again: outside-->pad-->crate.

Once he goes, he can have playtime for a half hour or so, then the process starts again.

This is really what you need to commit yourself to if you want to succeed. It's hard, hard work with Yorkies, but worth it. Good luck!
