When lucy was a baby, I left food down all the time. Puppies need access to food when they are growing. Just mix in parts 1/4 new food with 3/4 old food & gradually go to 1/2 & 1/2, 3/4 & 1/4, and then all new food. Should take a couple weeks or so.
When she turned about one year old, or so, was when I split her daily food into 1/2 in morning, 1/2 at dinner.
