Hi everyone,
Sorry for not updating sooner. I took my Puppy Chloe to the vet on Saturday morning because she was just not eating and I didn't feel I was getting enough food into her myself. She was drinking on her own but I was just so nervous and the Nutrical was not cutting it so I decided to go with my gut and take her in.....
While the vet was doing a check and telling me it was most likely nerves and she had to adapt and told me to keep doing what I was doing and to also rub Karo syrup on her gums every hour, I noticed something different and tried to stand her up and she just fell to the side. I was so scared the doctor took her to the back and gave her fluids and dextrose water and did bloodwork and it showed her sugar dropped!
It happened so fast it was the most horrible feeling to think she was going to die right then and there. They kept her until the late afternoon for observation and when they called me to pick her up she was walking and looked much better.
I'm still really nervous but she seems much better even though she is still hiding from us when we put her down.
What can I do to help her feel more comfortable? I feel so helpless and hopeless and just feel like she's never going to get comfortable enough to where she wants to eat on her own.
I have her on a strict schedule so she won't crash again. I think that she wasn't getting enough food in her Saturday because I was so scared I was hurting her she doesn't lick the syrup or nutrical I have to literally hold her head tight and make her open her mouth long enough to get the syringe in there really fast and squeeze everything in. I don't understand why she drinks water but won't eat the food and just wants to be in her little bed.
Any more suggestions will be great!! |
