| Broken Legs I've been reading the posts in this area and I see how caring everyone is, so I thought I would tell you about my baby Max. Max turned 1 yr on the 31st of March. On the 28th of December Maxie thought he was a big boy (he only weighs 3 pounds) and jumped off the couch and broke his right leg. We went to the vet the next day and she set his leg and put it in a cast. On the 30th, I put him on my bed so I could take a shower. I got done and found him sitting on the floor with his left leg broken. Off to the vet we went and had his leg put in a cast. Three weeks later, the vet wanted to do a cast change and discovered that Max had gangerine on his right foot. Throughout the past 4 months, Max had weekly bandage changes and his legs never healed. What do you do, deal with the gangerine that already cost him 2 toes and pads or the broken legs. We tried to do both and failed at getting both breaks healed. So now the scabs from the gangerine have finally fallen off but he still has the broken legs. I went to another Vet who specializes in small dogs and he told me that he would have to put pins in the sides of his leg bones and then put an appliance to tighten up the breaks. I'm guessing that he'll be in casts/bandages for most of the summer. The only thing that's holding me back the cost $2500 and the fear that this won't work and I'm causing him additional pain for nothing. |
