Millies Mum, Did the mother dog die? why in the world would you even want to wean a puppy so early? 6 weeks is the earliest and I would never do that at that age. If you don't have a local reputable breeder to ask, please ask your trusted Vet!

Most reputable breeders will tell you this, let the mother dog wean the puppies!!!! Puppies will need their mothers milk as long as possible to get the most protection.

Also, puppies need to learn bite inhibition, and other dog behaviors which they won't if learn you don't let them nurse from their mother. Yorkies are small to begin with and I would not be weaning them on such a poor diet of rice. They are not vegans, they are carnivores. They need protein, the rice has to go through a process that breaks it down in order for the puppies to digest it. Most people don't have the knowlege or the proper chemical process to do it. cooking the rice just isn't enough process to get the nutrition to them
.
Reputable breeders don't let thier puppies go to a new home any earlier than 3 months! If they are trying to see if the puppy is a show quality dog, they will keep it for several months more!

Where in the world did you find this article to wean a puppy at 3 weeks? Yorky puppies are truely too tiny to be selling at 6 weeks of age! Please go to your local library and get a book on raising puppies. You will get a lot of good information from a book rather than the article and your vet too!
