I think she means do you plan on scheduled feedings, or do you plan on leaving food out for the pup all the time, free feeding.
A new puppy will need to be taken out much more often, like every hour while awake...during the training period. Once they start to understand when and where to potty the time can be stretched longer. An adult, well trained dog, can go a very long time between potty breaks. Winston at 5 years old, easily sleeps through the night, even 10 hours, without going potty. During his awake hours, he usually goes out every 4to 5 hours...always first thing in the morning...at noon...before supper...after supper and at bedtime. He is 100% potty trained, to go outside...and has been since he was 8 weeks old...he has never had an accident in the house. This can be done, Winston is proof!!!
