ok now on to the reason for my post---
I am having a really hard time getting him to SIT! I know of all things sit! I try and have been trying since we got him to get him to sit, he will sit,but not on command and not when i have a treat for him, etc. I have tried treats, yorkie yummies, hand gestures, waiting till hes not too active (yeah right)...
I try getting im to look at me then saying sit and motioning the treat slightly above him, he backs up, or jumps up into my hand, even if its right at his nose level...
please help! I feel like i cant move on to other commands until he gets this one.... |
Got a stubborn one, too, 9 months and in his own world...

Try this.....place a piece of meat in your hand or a treat that induces great response. Cover the treat in your hand and allow him to smell it. Step back and ask him to, "Come." Their name should not be in the command, and the command should be simple and clear. When he comes, break off a small piece and reward. Cover the treat again in your hand. Tell him, "Sit." Bring the treat slightly over his head and back towards his tail in a straight motion, hopefulling inducing a "sit." Do not reward if he doesn't do it. If he doesn't sit, force his bottom down gently with your hand. While he is sitting, reward. This has to be quick, and while he is sitting, because they have terrible short term memories. Keep doing this over and over, day by day, until he understands that this position = sit = reward. My male has the female to model and she's been to a trainer, but will not perform without a treat. This does not work well when she is running all over the complex and I am running after her screaming, "Come, come, come!!!!!"...hehehehe...I know you can picture this...

Patience is required in huge amounts. They have a mind of their own, especially when young. Good luck with the furbaby's progress....Blessings, Lisa, Lilly & Jesse
