Wall paper was very popular in most homes up untill the 80's, then it went into plain walls painted, then white walls, and now it's do whatever you want because anything goes. I think the "cookie-cutter" homes are starting to get a bit boreing to some folks that want a more "homey" flair with wall-paper and distressed furniture. So, with that said, I would just go with what makes you happy. If you like it then keep it.
