Hello everyone. Lots of good reading here. We got our little man about 5 weeks ago. Found him on Craigslist of all places. He's been a super good little dog. However, I've noticed that he started smelling and he's shedding a lot. I bathed him tonight and he had a ton of fleas on him (we are treating the yard as well since we don't know where they are coming from). I noticed that he seems thinner since we got him and his hair is thinning a lot. He's got one patch under his neck that is totally bald. It was like that when we got him.

I've got to find a vet here and take him as he doesn't have tags. I do have breeder papers on him though so he's registered. We have him on Iams but I see that's not a good choice and will be going to Petco tomorrow to gradually switch him to another choice due to the options I've seen posted here.

We have no idea what he was being fed before so I'm hopeful that his hair loss and all could be due to allergy since we probably are giving him different food than he was on. In addition, he's 5 years old and crate trained. However, he has an issue that when he's out of the crate and the kids are home in the afternoon, he tends to potty in the house. When the kids aren't here it doesn't seem to be an issue.

This is our first small dog like this and any suggestions for potty training would be useful since I've got no clue really what to do. I've gotten conflicting info in researching online *sigh*.
