Vets could not stay in business if they gave away their services. They have to pay staff and other overhead. You would be amazed how many people take a very sick or injured pet to a vet and tell them to run very expensive tests, then not pay their bill. Unfortunately, it's people like that who have required vets to turn away people who can't pay upfront.

You wouldn't expect to not be paid for doing your job, would you?
