One of my yorkies( I have 2) is a 1 1/2 year old puppymill rescue that I have had since just before Christmas 2008. (I am into the rescue thing---I know I am nuts--I am getting another.) She had been in a foster home for about 2 months before I got her--wonderful people-- and I have had to go slow and be patient. I guess it may take a full year or so till she fully adjusts. She has come a long way and it is gratifying to see---she gives kisses and sits on my lap now, gets excited to go for walks and when it is supper time. She still won't take treats from my hand . It is hard to have a dog that isn't loving and outgoing from day 1 but is a nice thing to see the small breakthroughs.
