My sister's Cairn Terrier ate her Birkenstock sandal. The sandal had three leather straps and buckles. She came home from work and found the chewed sandal. She called the vet and he said to watch the dog and check the stools to see if the straps and buckles pass. During the next few days the dog ate normally and didn't throw up his food but he did throw up yellow foam all the time. He didn't pass any part of the sandal yet he was pooping normally. After a few days the dog was x-rayed and the straps and buckles were just sitting in the bottom of the stomach. The dog had to have $2000 surgery to remove the straps with the buckles still attached from his stomach. The vet did check all his intestines to make sure nothing had passed through and got stuck. The surgery was a success and he is a happy little boy again.
