If it's trading, it doesn't seem very "gifty", and for me, it would be back to what keeps me from doing that kind of stuff in the first place, the headache of assessing values, bargaining, searching through multiple threads for stuff I want, etc.

Giving it away or outright trading it....sounds a heck of a lot simpler than the token method. Not to mention there isn't any record keeping other than the two parties involved.
