I like having the puppy in the room with me - it is very important for bonding and so that you can hear if it needs anything. Some put jammies on their little ones - but I would opt for a blanket over a small crate.
I have to admit that after the potty training stages, Bailey joined us in our bed - but I know thats not for everyone.
