The really heartbreaking thing is that it goes on all the time. When people get upset at rescues because some have policies not to adopt to young applicants this is the EXACT reason why. It is seen time and again. Not to mention the total opposite of an elderly owner passing away and the family dumping the beloved pet at the pound because they just don't care or want the responsibility. It breaks my heart to hear stories like this over and over again.
