We had had a cat for about 6 months when we brought Luca home. Because yorkies are so territorial, it took a long time for the cat and dog to stop chasing each other. We found ourselves fussing at the dog, because it is easier for the dog to learn what is wrong, compared to a cat. Granted, they still have it out some times, it has gotten better. So - there is hope, but it takes time.
Luca seems to understand that he is not suppose to bite/bark at kitty, but sometimes she just pushes his buttons.
So try to be patient and be sure you show affection to both animals. Especially apart from each other.
