I had my first dog neutered by the humane society in Hawaii, and they did it completely 100% for free. They did a wonderful job. He had no complications.

Edited to add: A friend of mine used to work there and she told me that the vet's at the humane society do so many neutering/spaying a day they rarely have any complications because they're so well seasoned at it, much more than a private practice.
