Most unneutered dogs hump, and I've never heard that it ruins them for breeding. If you are thinking of breeding, I hope you get your dog evaluated, and don't take advice from just anybody who has bred before, but try to really educate yourself on the subject. Male dogs that are used for breeding, don't make as good of a pets as neutered dogs, you will have more problems with a variety of things, humping, marking, aggression, and trying to run away to find a girlfriend. I would never let my dog hump a human, but I think it's ok, if they are humping a toy or blanket. Like you learned, dogs are sneaky, and will just do it when you're not around. If you think your dog is humping more than is normal, you might want to get a vet check. Irritation or itching in the genital area can cause both male and female dogs to hump in response to the physical sensation. Be alert to this possibility, and of course have your veterinarian prescribe treatment to correct any underlying condition. By the way, please forget about shock collars, they are really inhumane.
