First of all, you can't go by weight alone, yorkies come in all sizes; he could be a perfect weight for his build. There are some threads to describe how exactly he should look, a yorkie won't have the extreme waist that some breeds have. I had to ask the vet about Joey, and he was indeed overweight. However, this doesn't indicate you are feeding the wrong dog food, it just means that he's eating too much. If your dog is indeed overweight make sure you cut out all bad snacks, and Joey's vet recommended that we cut Joey's food by 1/3 and replaced that with green beans, as they make the dog feel full. You need to have a goal in mind, and as with humans losing weight too fast can be unhealthy. Muscle is lost first, if the calorie reduction is too extreme. Frozen (thawed) green beans also make a healthy treat. Another thing you can do, is see that your dog gets more exercise, and if someone is giving him human treats stop that because it's not good even if he's not overweight. Some Purina products are better than others; I would probably avoid the lower priced varieties, for several different reasons.
