We have a crate also that Sophie Kate goes in when we are gone either short trips or overnight (at home she is in the big bed with us).
There are many time during the day I catch Sophie Kate hanging out in her crate taking a nap or just getting some quiet time. I have a nice Lamb Wool pad and one of her fleece blankets in there. It is not unusual for me to find one of her treats hidden in the blanket (I guess she might want a snack at some point).
Sophie Kate thinks of the crate more as her club house, in fact my neighbor said the only thing missing is her Jonas Brother poster. If the cat goes in her crate oh boy watch out, Sophie will attempt to herd him out.
