I think thats reasonable. It would be great to stay at home with them all the time, but sadly I still have a full working lifetime ahead of me.
Perhaps when you are at home you could close him in another room for short periods, and sort of train him to being alone.
Millie used to hate being left in the house, and would hide in the corner shivering when we left. But once we got her house trained, and she had free run of the house, she would sit on the chair at the window looking out and was fine.
