Hate to say it, but I'd be concerned that it's patellar luxation. My father's pom did the same thing and it was patellar luxation. He'd run around and then hold his back leg up and after a little time passed he'd use the leg again. The vet said the knee was going in and out of place. If left untreated the vet told him the dog could end up with arthrist as it rubs every time going in and out. Just if you're wondering on price the surgery in VA was 1800, but he's good as new three years after it.
