My senior collie had a bought with demodetic mange when whe was 11. My understanding is that all dogs have these mites, it's just that normally you never seem them, they live down in the hair follicle. When the immune sytem of the dog is compromised, the mites can proliferate. It could be the stress of leaving home but I would be very concerned about this as it is sometimes a genetic problem and could be an ongoing thing. It is entirely possible the breeder did not know.....
