I am in such amazement from what I saw today, I thought I would share what I saw. My mother in law has rental houses for people who have state aid. She just evicted a lady who has lived there for years. She has 8 children who were just taken to live in foster care. After the kids were taken, my mother in law evicted her not paying 2500 dollars in rent. We went over to help her clean up and I was not prepared for seeing these conditions. Mice were everywhere, the drawers were full of mouse poo. She had 3 kids to a room and some of the older ones were sleeping in toddler beds still. She had a walk in porch that also housed a few kids in bunkbeds. All the closets were full to the ceiling with clean used clothes, like they had sat there since they were given to her, never worn. Her walk in closets were full to the ceiling, the basement was full to the ceiling and there was one little path to walk to the back of the basement where the older child was sleeping. She had metal shelving screwed to every wall full of junk, nothing was usable, nothing could be salvaged or donated(except the hung clothes), it was awful. My mother in law had never been allowed inside to see these conditions since she bought this house from the previous landlord. Apparently this lady was a smart lady, who could have easily made it through a school program to graduate with a degree and better her situation, but still she chose not to do these things, I am guessing the state aid she received for all the kids was enough to live off of. I can't really explain how bad this was, it was especially hard to see a picture of one of the children. I have been to some really crazy, unkept houses but this is a whole different story. I felt bad for the kids when I heard they were removed, but that was before I saw the conditions they were in, I can't believe she was able to keep this a secret for as long as she did. It is so sad.
