I bought a playpen for June (a month before I got her) and ended up using it for the foster puppies as well. Now that I have June (I got her yesterday), she uses it.
I think playpens are great and they make it easy to house train. I covered the floor with some vinyl material and put her bed, toys, water with a placemat and her potty pads in there.
The breeder I got her from kept the puppies in a similar situation, so she is used to it. The foster puppies, however, weren't. They cried a lot - especially in the morning - and made it hell. But they were big and there was two of them.
I think she will get used to it easily, but be sure to only respond when she has stopped crying. This might mean waiting around the corner until she stops, but it is totally worth it.
Good luck with it, expens are great.
